➤ Course Objectives
The primary objective of the Biodiversity Workshop is to enhance participants’ knowledge and awareness of biodiversity and its significance in both natural and human systems. The workshop provides opportunities for experiential learning through the direct observation of species, ecosystems, and environmental management practices. It also introduces students to modern scientific approaches and technological tools used in biodiversity research and monitoring. Furthermore, the workshop encourages participants to develop critical-thinking skills by exploring the ecological, cultural, historical, and social dimensions of biodiversity. Another important objective is to strengthen students’ ability to translate their observations and experiences into meaningful research ideas that can contribute to environmental conservation and sustainability.
➤ Course Importance
The Biodiversity Workshop provides a comprehensive understanding of biodiversity from multiple perspectives. At the NTU Green Health Center, participants learn about the connections between natural environments and human health, highlighting the role of green spaces in promoting physical and mental well-being. The visit to the NTU Museum of Zoology offers an opportunity to observe animal specimens and appreciate the richness of biological diversity as well as the importance of scientific collections in research and education. The National Taiwan Science Education Center expands participants’ understanding through exhibitions that demonstrate the importance of biodiversity conservation and public engagement in environmental issues. At Yangmingshan National Park, students explore how natural landscapes are influenced by ecological processes, historical developments, and human activities, providing a broader understanding of the relationship between nature and society. The visit to Academia Sinica South Campus introduces participants to advanced scientific research and emerging technologies related to environmental monitoring, renewable energy, and sustainability. This experience demonstrates how scientific innovation can support biodiversity conservation and address environmental challenges. The field survey at Hwa-Lin Experimental Forest provides hands-on experience in biodiversity observation and ecological field methods. Participants observe various organisms and gained practical skills in documenting and understanding biodiversity within natural ecosystems.
